1,000 Hands Campaign

The LLELA Team is launching the 1,000 Hands Campaign, a community initiative focused on strengthening our community’s connection to nature and the outdoors. This spring and summer, we are working to engage 1,000 hands in outdoor experiences that inspire curiosity, stewardship, and appreciation for the natural world.

Each “hand” represents someone who has taken part in a meaningful outdoor interaction—whether that’s learning something new, exploring a trail, volunteering time, or participating in a hands-on nature activity. Together, these experiences help build a stronger relationship between our community and the natural spaces that make Lewisville special.

Our Goal

Our goal is simple: engage 1,000 hands in outdoor activities and experiences that connect people with nature. Through programs at the Lewisville Lake Environmental Learning Area (LLELA), Nature on Wheels outreach events, volunteer opportunities, and visits to Lewisville’s parks and natural spaces, we hope to inspire residents and visitors to step outside, explore, and participate.

How to Participate

Getting involved is easy. You can add your hand to the mission by:

  • Attending a Nature on Wheels outreach event
  • Participating in LLELA outdoor programs and educational activities
  • Volunteering through Service Saturdays or partner conservation projects
  • Visiting and exploring LLELA or Lewisville’s natural parks and green spaces
  • Meeting our team at community events and pop-ups and posing for a photo to officially add your hand to the campaign
Every interaction counts. When you participate, you’ll have the opportunity to take a photo of your hand as part of the campaign and help us track our progress toward reaching 1,000 hands.
Join the Mission
Below is a calendar of upcoming events and opportunities where you can meet our team, explore the outdoors, and add your hand to the mission. Follow along at #1000HandsLewisville as we work together to strengthen Lewisville’s connection to nature, one hand at a time.

Friends of LLELA Lecture Series: Soil!

Soil Testing Lab!

Join the Friends of LLELA Lecture Series and come ready to get your hands dirty for this facinating class on soil!

Dixie Westbrook is an AP Environmental Science teacher at Flower Mound High School. She has spent the past eleven years building a robust environmental program that has become a much sought after, student favorite course. Soil Properties Lab is a memorable part of the course in its rigor and application to real world scenarios as well as hands-on instruction. Dixie is a 2025 class member of the Blackland Prairie Chapter of Texas Master Naturalist and a member of the Friends of LLELA board.

Join Dixie in a hands-on lab of  learning how to test your own soil for soil type, to test for nutrients and other chemical properties, to read a soil triangle, and to get to know more about caring for the soil; essential to life itself!

All supplies and soil will be provided for the lab. Participants are encouraged to bring a jar full of their own soil to take back home to set up testing later.

FREE with paid entrance to LLELA, registration is required.
